Mystical experience following a stroke - jill bolte taylor's stroke of insight

Excellent video on consciousness, and the 2 sides of our brain:

Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke.
As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment.

This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another. It's also about our minds, and there is no reason to believe/assume that the biochemistry of the brain is a complete understanding of such mystical experience/

  1. I particularly like the way a scientist has held onto the 'other' pole of the brain in her emotional description. I feel that arts use both sides of the brain, particularly when words aren't involved. My laptop 'wakes' into TedTalks, now! It is wired into a large monitor, so it's a bit like TV without all the crud. It's about 15 years since I quit TV and I don't miss it. The BBC did a fantastic series a while ago, so I bought it as a download. I don't suppose I've missed much else ...
