The lyric coloratura mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato is especially well known for her performances of Handel and Mozart. I was 'educated' about Joyce this past week (21st November) by an excellent program on Radio 3 hosted by Sean Rafferty. The good news is ... the program is still available on catch-up for a month.
The program features live interview with Joyce DiDonato, and 3 recordings of her voice:
1. George Frideric Handel Lascia ch'io pianga from Rinaldo
Singer: Joyce DiDonato. Orchestra: Il Pomo d'Oro. Conductor: Maxim Emelyanychev.

typical comments:
Joyce sings this sublime piece in beautiful surroundings and with an amazing chamber accompaniment.
This is the most beautiful voice I've heard in a while.
My favourite recording:
2.
In War & Peace.Joyce's ambitious project.
typical comment:
Joyce DiDonato brings out every ounce of musicality in her performance. Plus, her voice is pure and focused in the Baroque style , without undue vibrato or scooping. I am sending this link to several other music lovers.
my response:
"Several?!" Send this to the world ...
All 3 are published by Erato 1 , not to be confused with erratum (a printing error)!

music as a force for transformation
I have an image of corporate lawyers hearing this and leaving the office in search of a decent job. Apparently they can hear this and business as usual. god knows how.
ReplyDeleteI'll rephrase that ... the other one knows how
