best cooking and salad oils - health food education

.. It is crucial for our health that we have a balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 oils.

The exact ratio is debatable, and has varied through history and from one culture to another, but in current Western diets, fuelled by advertising, the lack of omega-3 has become a serious problem.

This chart should help!

 Flax is an obvious remedy (I use it in my bread mix and with oats for breakfast).

N.B. In some countries Flax is better known as Linseed. It's the same thing.

Rape seed oil is missing from this chart, and, being American, 'corn' means maize.

that you get a good balance of the different fatty
acids in your diet and that you try to
reduce the amounts of saturated fats you eat.

    excellent recipe for brown rice (plus veg) to keep for the week


    1 tablespoon sesame oil
    ½ cup diced red onion
    1 teaspoon minced garlic
    ½ cup frozen peas
    ½ cup finely diced carrots
    ½ block of extra firm tofu, crumbled
    2 ½ cups cooked brown rice
    2 tablespoons soy sauce
