poison on the food shelf in supermarkets

Once upon a time I used to be able to sprout store-bought potatoes to plant in my garden.

In recent years, such potatoes needed a thorough washing to remove growth inhibitors.

This year, no amount of washing can undo the chemical poisoning.

These potatoes are in the food aisle, in plastic bags (!) with no mention of chemical treatment.

The commercial motive seems to be to keep last years small potatoes ('baby potatoes' according to the sales-drivel) so they look like newly grown "new potatoes".

So, no more store potatoes for me - the list of what I can eat is getting shorter all the time ... everyone needs a garden or allotment.
